Why we don't stick to our Plans?
Whenever we start something new, we are always excited about it. We tell the whole world (or atleast to our friends or family) that we are going to do it, but ultimately end up not doing it.
Read out some of these, maybe some of it might resonate with you
--> You say you want to go to Gym everyday and you follow it for a week/month and then leave it completely.
--> You say you want to stick to a diet program and you follow it for a week/month and then leave out.
--> You say you don’t want to get distracted while you are working on an important project, but end up in complete distraction.
--> You say you want to spend time with your family more often, but end up in working all the time.
--> And so on and on and on...
So what’s exactly the problem? Are we one of those people who never want to be believed? Or are we one of those who are happy sitting in their bean bags eatings chips and enjoying whatever comes in their flow?
I found this more interesting when I started talking to people who has similar kind of problems. When I finished my research on this, I found that there isn’t exactly one reason but there are plenty of them. Sometimes it depends on the situation and the type of person you are.
I bring you some of the most common reasons of not sticking to our plans:
Goals aren’t Exciting
This is pretty self-explanatory. Most of the time people take up a goal for which they are not excited. If this is the case, then how would you expect even to get finished when you yourself is not motivated to do it. Think about it.
Easy to Dream than Sacrifice
It costs nothing and thus everybody is ready for it. But the real issue comes up when they are asked to work for it. It is easier to get into the land of dreams, thinking of endless possibilities and things we can do/achieve, but we need to work for it to get them. Sometimes, we have to sacrifice our favorite things like watching tv, playing videos games to achieve our goals (but remember these sacrifices are just for time).
One of the most popular tagline to support this point would be:
“Stop Dreaming, Start Living”
Fear of Failure
We are not ready to fail because that would make us look bad in front of everyone. However, success doesn’t come up if we are not ready to fail.
No Planning
Probably only in movies where even though you don’t have a plan, you can still win the game, but life is not like that. Planning is required everywhere in this world. Infact, not having a plan would simply increases your chances of not achieving it towards the end.
Going Alone
Whether you want to quit smoking, improving health, go gym regularly or learn a skill, don’t do it alone. Research has shown that if you are with someone then there are high chances of getting it done than getting it done alone. So next time, surround yourself with people who have the same goal and you would find improvement yourself.
Unrealistic Goals
Most of the time people want to do something which is extremely big enough like losing 30 kgs in 3 months or finishing up a project in 3 months which actually requires 8 months. You got it what I am trying to say.
Art of Re-Negotiating
Within a weeks time we would get to know whether we would be able to achieve our goals or not. Most people know the art of Negotiating and this time we try to implement with our goals. To adjust the situation, we try to negotiate with ourselves (because of xyz problems).
Mood Swing
You only do certain things when you like and don’t when you don’t like it. That’s probably one of the reason why aren’t able to complete something which we started. Most of the time this happens due to lack of willpower.
Not Believing in Yourself
One of the core reason is this. You just don’t believe in yourself because of various reasons: lack of motivation, support, commitment, etc. Try to appreciate yourself whenever you do certain things (is the only way to get yourself believe in you).
P.S. These are some of the most common issue faced by everyone in this world. What's your reason of not sticking to the plan? Do Share with us.
